An evidence-based pathway for individuals who need more from treatment
Connected Minds TMS provides transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) within a structured, psychiatrist-led framework, offering an affordable treatment pathway for individuals with complex mental health presentations. We work alongside GPs, psychiatrists and allied health professionals to deliver connected, clinically appropriate care from our premises in Margate and Caboolture.
When to consider a referral
TMS may be appropriate for individuals who:
- have a diagnosis of major depressive disorder, including treatment-resistant depression
- have trialled two or more antidepressants without sufficient response
- have engaged in psychological therapy but continue to experience symptoms
- are unable to tolerate medication due to side effects or anxiety
- are seeking a non-medication treatment pathway within a broader care plan
While the strongest evidence supports TMS therapy for depression, referrals may also be considered for individuals with:
- anxiety disorders
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- chronic pain
- insomnia
- tinnitus
- addiction and substance use disorders
Suitability is always determined following psychiatric assessment and clinical review.
How TMS fits into a treatment plan
TMS is typically introduced as the next rung on the treatment ladder when first-line treatments have delivered sufficient relief.
At Connected Minds, TMS is delivered within a psychiatrist-led model, which includes:
- formal psychiatric assessment prior to treatment
- individualised treatment planning
- a structured course of treatment over several weeks
- ongoing monitoring and outcome tracking
- communication back to the referring GP.
This approach supports continuity of care and ensures treatment decisions are made within a broader clinical context.

2. Initial screening
Our team contacts the individual to gather relevant history and confirm next steps.
3. Psychiatric assessment
(item 291)
A psychiatrist conducts a telehealth consultation with the individual to determine suitability for TMS treatment, with a report provided back to you.
4. Treatment and monitoring
If suitable, TMS is delivered over a structured course of up to 35 sessions initially, with progress tracked throughout.
5. Reporting and follow-up
You receive updates on treatment progress and a summary at completion.
Individuals remain connected to your care throughout.
Funding and access
Medicare may bulk-bill for eligible individuals, providing up to 35 sessions initially at no out-of-pocket cost. That is a considerable benefit for individuals who may already have high healthcare costs.
DVA and WorkCover funding may also be available for some individuals. We also offer a low-cost treatment pathway for individuals who are paying privately.
A collaborative approach
Connected Minds is built around shared care, recognising that, while we are involved in this aspect of their care, you have a long-standing and ongoing relationship with the individual.
That’s why we keep you informed at each stage — from assessment through to completion of treatment.
