Depression and anxiety treatment without medication

Antidepressants not working? Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive therapy for patients with complex mental health conditions.
Treatment is available through Medicare, DVA or WorkCover for eligible patients.

Your mental health journey

When you’re diagnosed with a mental health condition, your doctor’s first step may be to recommend psychological support and, in some cases, to prescribe medication.

Many patients benefit from these treatments, but some experience persistent symptoms or struggle with medication side effects.

If that’s you, Connected Minds offers TMS therapy as an alternative treatment path under the care of experienced psychiatrists. For most patients, it’s even bulk billed!

Frequently asked questions

  • How long does TMS treatment take?

Each session takes 20–40 minutes. A full course usually involves 35 sessions over several weeks.

  • Is TMS covered by Medicare?

If you have a valid Medicare card and meet the clinical criteria, a course of 35 TMS treatments will be bulk billed in most cases, meaning you’ll pay $0.

Should you need further treatment, Medicare may also cover another 15 sessions after 4 months.

If you’re not eligible for Medicare-funded TMS therapy, we offer low-cost private sessions.

  • What does TMS feel like?

Most people describe a tapping sensation during treatment. TMS does not require sedation, and you can return to usual activities afterwards.

  • Does TMS affect memory?

TMS is not associated with memory loss. If you have questions about cognitive effects, we encourage you to raise them with your clinical team before starting treatment.
